Luke Lindoe

The Luke Lindoe Library is named after Luke Lindoe (1913-2000), former student and faculty member. Born in Bashaw Alberta, he spent his childhood travelling in the Western provinces and US, finding his way to Calgary and the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (PITA) in 1935. He eventually enrolled in PITA's art department which became the Alberta College of Art. He became an instructor in 1946 and is credited as the founder of the ceramics department. A painter, sculptor, ceramics artist, and entrepreneur, Lindoe played a central role in defining the diversity of art practice at AUArts today.
