Black Lunch Table Wikipedia Workshop

On Thursday October 6th from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, the Luke Lindoe Library and the Illingworth Kerr Gallery, in partnership with Black Lunch Table will host a Wikipedia Workshop where we will train participants to make quality contributions to Wikipedia, while addressing issues related to Black artists in Alberta.  The workshop will create a space to train more editors of color and to ask everyone to spend time with us focusing on subjects that lack coverage. This is “radical archiving” with the purpose of filling gaps in this highly accessed archive and the (art) historical record.

Black Lunch Table Wikimedians mobilize the creation and improvement of a specific set of Wikipedia articles that pertain to the lives and works of Black artists. In the field of mainstream contemporary art, Black artists are still marginalized within our field. Wikipedia estimates that 77% of their editors are white and 91% of their editors are men. Our work shifts this demographic and empowers people to write their own history. Our sessions and events, including  BLT Photobooth and edit-a-thons, equip new editors with the skills and resources to create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles and encourages existing editors to focus on Wikipedia knowledge gaps.

Please bring your own equipment or plan to use a computer in the library. Please plan to come for the introduction at 3pm and stay as long as you want.
