Using Library Primo: Primo bells and whistles

Search, find and discover in Primo, our library catalogue.

The facet menu

The facet menu

Including/Excluding facets

The left hand side menu under Tweak your results, shows a list of characteristics or "facets" for each result. These facets are lumped into specific categories such as: availability, resource type, subject, and publication date (range). Review the drop down menus under each category to include or exclude certain facets. For example, the below screenshot shows that I have created a search limited to results which are available online and excluding the resource type "reviews". Once you have finished refining your search to include and exclude certain results, always select the green Apply Filters button.

Expand My Results

Primo searches default to return ONLY results for which patrons can access full text. However, you may want to explore resources which are not part of the library catalogue but do exist and which you may want to request for purchase or inter-library loan. The first screenshot below shows a search which includes all results immediately accessible (4,446). The second screenshot shows how with the Expand My Results option box selected, Primo returns many more results (over 18,000).

Citation trails

Citation trails

Citation trails help you find related articles, influential research and researchers. If available, you can view related citations that are either cited in this record CitedByThisRecord_Icon.png or citing this record CitingThisRecord_Icon.png.

For example, in the below example, selecting CitedByThisRecord_Icon.png will bring you to a list of articles which this article cites (has in its Works Cited/References section). Selecting CitingThisRecord_Icon.png will bring you to a list of articles which all cite this specific 2015 article by Jee-Lyn Garcia and Zulfacar.
